Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, because the famine prevailed in the land.

And there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine, which was in the time of Abraham; and Isaac went to Abimelech the king of the Philistines to Gerar.

And all countries came to Egypt to buy from Joseph, for the famine prevailed in all the earth.

And Jacob, having seen that there was a sale [of grain] in Egypt, said to his sons, Why do look at one another?

But the famine prevailed in the land.

And I will break down the haughtiness of your pride; and I will make your heaven iron, and your earth like brass.

And Elijah went to appear before Ahab. And the famine was severe in Samaria.

And there was a great famine in Samaria. And behold, they besieged it, until a donkey's head was [valued] at fifty pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung at five pieces of silver.

And Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he [had] restored to life, saying, Arise and go, you and your household, and sojourn wherever you may sojourn; for the Lord has called for a famine upon the land; indeed it will come upon the land [for] seven years.

And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.

And her nobles have sent their little ones to the water: they came to the wells, and found no water: and brought back their vessels empty.

Our sins have risen up against us. O Lord, do for us for Your name's sake; for our sins are many before You; for we have sinned against You.

Will You be as a man asleep, or as a [strong] man that cannot save? Yet You are among us, O Lord, and we are called by Your name; forget us not.

And the Lord said to me, Pray not for this people, for [their] good:

And I said, Ah, Lord [God]! Behold, their prophets prophesy, and say, You shall not see a sword, nor shall famine be among you; for I will give truth and peace on the land, and in this place.

Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy lies in My name, and I sent them not, who say, Sword and famine shall not be upon this land; they shall die by a grievous death, and the prophets shall be consumed by famine.

And you shall speak this word to them: Let your eyes shed tears day and night, and let them not cease; for the daughter of My people has been sorely bruised, and her plague is very grievous.

And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You deliver them into my hands? And the Lord said to David, Go up, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.

And David inquired of the Lord. And the Lord said, You shall not go up to meet them: turn from them, and you shall meet them near the Place of Weeping.

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, and they shall ask of him before the Lord the judgment of the Urim. They shall go forth at his word, and at his word they shall come in, he and the children of Israel with one accord, and all the congregation.

And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and strike these Philistines? And the Lord said, Go, and you shall strike these Philistines, and shall save Keilah.

And David inquired yet again of the Lord; and the Lord answered him, and said to him, Arise and go down to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistines into your hands.

Will [the place] be shut up? And now will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard? Lord God of Israel, tell Your servant. And the Lord said, It will be shut up.

Nevertheless I will beseech the Lord, and will call upon the Lord, the Sovereign of all;

who gives rain upon the earth, sending water on the earth:

And I will say to the Lord, Do not teach me to be impious; and wherefore have You thus judged me?

And call upon Me in the day of affliction; and I shall deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. Pause.

He shall call upon Me, and I will hearken to him; I am with him in affliction; and I will deliver him, and glorify him.

But the children of Israel committed a great trespass, and kept back [part] of the accursed thing; and Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zambri, the son of Zabdi, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing; and the Lord was very angry with the children of Israel.

The people have sinned, and transgressed the covenant which I made with them; they have stolen from the accursed thing, and put it into their store.

And the children of Israel will not be able to stand before their enemies; they will turn their back before their enemies, for they have become an accursed thing: I will no longer be with you, unless you remove the accursed thing from yourselves.

And the king said to the footmen that attended on him, Come here and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and they did not inform me. But the servants of the king would not lift their hands to fall upon the priest of the Lord.

And he struck Nob, the city of the priest, with the edge of the sword, both man and woman, infant and suckling, calf and ox, and also sheep.
