And everyone that was in distress, and everyone that was in debt, and everyone that was troubled in mind gathered to him there, and he was a leader over them, and there were with him about four hundred men.

So David arose, and the six hundred men that were with him, and he went to Achish, son of Maoch, king of Gath.

And David dwelt with Achish, he and his men, each with his family; and David and both his wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

And it came to pass when David and his men had entered Ziklag on the third day, that Amalek had made an incursion upon the south, and upon Ziklag, and attacked Ziklag, and burned it with fire.

So David went, he and the six hundred men with him, and they came as far as the brook Besor, and the superfluous ones stopped.

And he pursued them with four hundred men; and two hundred men remained behind, who tarried on the other side of the brook Besor.

And these [are] those that came to Ziklag, when he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish; and these [were] among the mighty, aiding [him] in war,

the chief [was] Ahiezer, then Joash son of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet, sons of Azmaveth, Berachah, and Jehu of Anathoth;

Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite;

and Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham, and the [men] of Gedor.

And they gave to them Kirjath Arba the metropolis of the sons of Anak; this is Hebron in the mountains of Judah, and the suburbs surrounding it.

But the lands of the city, and its villages Joshua gave to the sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh for a possession.
