Come, you children, hear me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

Hear, my son, the instruction of your father, and reject not the rules of your mother.

For you shall receive a crown of grace for your head, and a chain of gold around your neck.

Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to know understanding.

For I also was a son obedient to my father, and loved in the sight of my mother:

[My] son, attend to my wisdom, and incline your ear to my words;

[My] son, keep the laws of your father, and do not reject the ordinances of your mother:

[My] son, keep my words, and hide my commandments with you. [ 7:2] [My] son, honor the Lord, and you shall be strong; and fear none but Him.

Now then [my] son, listen to me, and attend to the words of my mouth.

Now then, [my] son, hear me: blessed is the man who shall listen to me, and the mortal who shall keep my ways;

Listen, [my] son, to your father which begot you, and despise not [your mother] because she has grown old.

My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.
