for we are strangers before You, and sojourners, as all our fathers [were]; our days upon the earth [are] as a shadow, and there is no remaining.

O Lord, hearken to my prayer and my supplication; attend to my tears; be not silent, for I am a sojourner in the land, and a stranger, as all my fathers [were].

I am a stranger in the earth; hide not Your commandments from me.

Your statutes were my sons in the place of my sojourning.

Therefore always being confident, and knowing that while we are in the body, we are away from home from the Lord

By faith he migrated into a land of promise as [in] a foreign [land], dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise;

By faith Sarah herself also received power for conception of seed, and she bore a child past the normal age, because she regarded [Him] faithful who had promised.

These all died according to faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off and welcoming [them], and confessing that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

And indeed if they had remembered that land from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to turn back.

For we have no permanent city, but we seek the [one] to come.

Beloved, I implore you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from the lusts of the flesh which war against the soul;

For a mortal born of a woman is short-lived, and full of wrath.

Behold, You have made my days old; and my existence [is] as nothing before You; indeed, every man living [is] altogether vanity. Pause.

Remember what my being is; for have You created all the sons of men in vain?

What man is there who shall live, and not see death? Shall [anyone] deliver his soul from the hand of Hades? Pause.

Turn not man back to [his] low place, whereas You said, Return, you sons of men?

Years shall be vanity to them; let the morning pass away as grass.

For we have perished in Your anger, and in Your wrath we have been troubled.

For all our days are gone, and we have passed away in Your wrath; our years have spun out their tale as a spider.

Who knows the power of Your wrath?

[you] who do not know [what will] happen tomorrow. For what is your life? For it will be a vapor that appears for a little [time], but then also disappears.

And Jacob survived seventeen years in the land of Egypt; and Jacob's days of the years of his life were one hundred and forty-seven years.

And all the days of Methuselah, which he lived, were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died.

And Shem lived five hundred years after he had begotten Arphaxad, and begot sons and daughters, and died.

And Nahor lived one hundred and seventy-nine years, and begot Terah.

And Nahor lived one hundred and twenty-five years after he had begotten Terah, and begot sons and daughters, and he died.

And these [were] the years of the days of the life of Abraham, as many as he lived, one hundred and seventy-five years.

Then Abraham breathed his last, and died in a good old age, an old man and full of days, and was added to his people.

And the days of Isaac which he lived were one hundred and eighty years.

And Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years; and they prepared his corpse, and put him in a coffin in Egypt.

And I established My covenant with them, to give them the land of the Canaanites, the land in which they sojourned, in which also they dwelt as strangers.

And Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron his brother was eighty-three years old, when he spoke to Pharaoh.

And Moses was a hundred and twenty years old at his death; his eyes were not dimmed, nor were his natural powers destroyed.

And it came to pass after these things that Joshua the son of Nun the servant of the Lord died, [at the age] of a hundred and ten years.

And Barzillai was a very old man, eighty years old; and he had provided for the king when he dwelt in Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.

And Barzillai said to the king, How many [are] the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?

For ask of the former generation, and search diligently among the race of our fathers:

And he himself was the son of his father Zare, one of the sons of Esau, and of his mother Bosorrha, so that he was the fifth from Abraham. [ 42:17D] And these were the kings who reigned in Edom, which country he also ruled over: first, Balak, the son of Beor, and the name of his city was Dennaba: but after Balak, Jobab, who is called Job, and after him Asom, who was governor out of the country of Teman: and after him Adad, the son of Barad, who destroyed Midian in the plain of Moab; and the name of his city was Gethaim. [ 42:17E] And his friends who came to him were Eliphaz, of the children of Esau, king of the Thaemanites, Bildad sovereign of the Sauchaeans, and Zophar king of the Minaeans.
