And there was a great famine in Samaria. And behold, they besieged it, until a donkey's head was [valued] at fifty pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung at five pieces of silver.

And the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, and a woman cried to him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
27
And he said to her, Unless the Lord help you, how shall I help you? From the threshing floor, or from the winepress?
28
And the king said to her, What is [the matter] with you? And the woman said to him, This [woman] said to me, Give your son, and we will eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.
29
So we boiled my son, and ate him. And I said to her on the next day, Give your son, and let us eat him; but she has hidden her son.
Jeremiah 14:1-6

And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.

Judah has mourned, and her gates are emptied, and are darkened upon the earth; and the cry of Jerusalem has gone up.

And her nobles have sent their little ones to the water: they came to the wells, and found no water: and brought back their vessels empty.

And the labors of the land failed, because there was no rain: the plowmen were ashamed; they covered their heads.

And the deer gave birth in the field, and forsook [it], because there was no grass.

The wild donkeys stood by the forests, and snuffed up the wind; their eyes failed, because there was no grass.

GIMEL. Nay, serpents have drawn out the breasts, they give suck to their young, the daughters of my people are incurably cruel, as an ostrich in a desert.

DALETH. The tongue of the sucking child cleaves to the roof of its mouth for thirst: the little children ask for bread, and there is none to break it for them.

HE. They that feed on dainties are desolate in the streets; they that used to be nursed in scarlet have clothed themselves with dung.

VAU. And the iniquity of the daughter of my people has been increased beyond the iniquities of Sodom, [the city] that was overthrown very suddenly, and none labored against her [with their] hands.

ZAIN. Her Nazarites were made purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were purified as with fire, their polishing was superior to sapphire stone.

HETH. Their countenance has become blacker than smoke; they are not known in the streets: their skin has cleaved to their bones; they are withered, they have become as a stick.
9
TETH. The slain with the sword were better than they that were slain with hunger; they have departed, pierced through from lack of the fruits of the field.
10
JOD. The hands of tender hearted women have boiled their own children; they became meat for them in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
