Now formerly in Israel, everyone who went to inquire of God said, Come and let us go to the seer; for the people formerly called the prophet, the seer.

And Samuel asked yet again of the Lord, Will the man come here? And the Lord said, Behold, he is hid among the stuff.

Have I begun today to inquire of God for him? By no means: let not the king bring a charge against his servant, and against any of my father's house, for your servant knew not in all these matters anything great or small.

So Saul inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him not by dreams, nor by manifestations, nor by prophets.

And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And He said to him, Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them, and you shall surely rescue the [captives].

and [do you pollute yourselves] with the firstfruits of your gifts, in the offerings wherewith you pollute yourselves in all your imaginations, until this day; and shall I answer you, O house of Israel? [As] I live, says the Lord, I will not answer you, neither shall this thing come upon your spirit.

Thus says the Lord God: Yet [for] this will I be sought by the house of Israel, to establish them; I will multiply them, [even] men as sheep;
