And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I will stretch out my hand to the Lord, the Most High God, who made the heaven and the earth,

that I will not take from all your goods, from a string to a sandal strap, lest you should say, I have made Abram rich.

Instruction is to them that use it a gracious reward; and wherever it may turn, it shall prosper.

A man's gift enlarges him, and seats him among princes.

A secret gift calms anger, but he that forbears to give stirs up strong wrath.

But the godly have devised wise [measures], and this counsel shall stand.

And they said, We have surely seen that the Lord was with you, and we said, Let there be an oath between us and you, and we will make a covenant with you,

And he made a feast for them, and they ate and drank.

Now then come, let me make a covenant, both you and I, and it shall be for a witness between me and you; and he said to him, Behold, there is no one with us; behold, God is witness between me and you.

without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;

Brothers, I speak in human fashion: A covenant is of a man, yet having been confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.
