In all, twenty-five thousand Benjaminites were killed that day---all of them brave soldiers.

The Israelites turned back against the rest of the Benjaminites and killed them all---men, women, and children, and animals as well. They burned every town in the area.

First comes Benjamin, the smallest tribe, then the leaders of Judah with their group, followed by the leaders of Zebulun and Naphtali.

But some worthless people said, "How can this fellow do us any good?" They despised Saul and did not bring him any gifts.

Samuel answered, "Even though you consider yourself of no importance, you are the leader of the tribes of Israel. The LORD anointed you king of Israel,

Gideon replied, "But Lord, how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least important member of my family."

In the past, when the tribe of Ephraim spoke, the other tribes of Israel were afraid; they looked up to Ephraim. But the people sinned by worshiping Baal, and for this they will die.

For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great."
