"Do not commit adultery.

If a man commits adultery with the wife of an Israelite, both he and the woman shall be put to death.

(SEE 5:12)

In either case the man shall take his wife to the priest. He shall also take the required offering of two pounds of barley flour, but he shall not pour any olive oil on it or put any incense on it, because it is an offering from a suspicious husband, made to bring the truth to light.

He shall pour some holy water into a clay bowl and take some of the earth that is on the floor of the Tent of the LORD's presence and put it in the water to make it bitter.

Then the priest shall make the woman agree to this oath spoken by the priest: "If you have not committed adultery, you will not be harmed by the curse that this water brings.

may the LORD make your name a curse among your people. May he cause your genital organs to shrink and your stomach to swell up.

Then the priest shall write this curse down and wash the writing off into the bowl of bitter water.

the priest shall take the offering of flour out of the woman's hands, hold it out in dedication to the LORD, and present it on the altar.

If she has committed adultery, the water will cause bitter pain; her stomach will swell up and her genital organs will shrink. Her name will become a curse among her people.

This is the law in cases where a man is jealous and becomes suspicious that his wife has committed adultery. The woman shall be made to stand in front of the altar, and the priest shall perform this ritual.

The husband shall be free of guilt, but the woman, if guilty, must suffer the consequences.

"If a man is caught having intercourse with another man's wife, both of them are to be put to death. In this way you will get rid of this evil.

You are to take them outside the town and stone them to death. She is to die because she did not cry out for help, although she was in a town, where she could have been heard. And the man is to die because he had intercourse with someone who was engaged. In this way you will get rid of this evil.

But now I tell you: if a man divorces his wife for any cause other than her unfaithfulness, then he is guilty of making her commit adultery if she marries again; and the man who marries her commits adultery also.

But in the beginning, at the time of creation, 'God made them male and female,' as the scripture says.

and the two will become one.' So they are no longer two, but one.

When they went back into the house, the disciples asked Jesus about this matter.

In the same way, a woman who divorces her husband and marries another man commits adultery."

The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees brought in a woman who had been caught committing adultery, and they made her stand before them all.

In our Law Moses commanded that such a woman must be stoned to death. Now, what do you say?"

Ruth answered, "You are very kind to me, sir. You have made me feel better by speaking gently to me, even though I am not the equal of one of your servants."

When David heard that Nabal had died, he said, "Praise the LORD! He has taken revenge on Nabal for insulting me and has kept me his servant from doing wrong. The LORD has punished Nabal for his evil." Then David sent a proposal of marriage to Abigail.

Abigail bowed down to the ground and said, "I am his servant, ready to wash the feet of his servants."

But do not include younger widows in the list; because when their desires make them want to marry, they turn away from Christ,

They also learn to waste their time in going around from house to house; but even worse, they learn to be gossips and busybodies, talking of things they should not.
