The LORD said to Moses, "Now I am going to cause food to rain down from the sky for all of you. The people must go out every day and gather enough for that day. In this way I can test them to find out if they will follow my instructions.

Then Moses said, "It is the LORD who will give you meat to eat in the evening and as much bread as you want in the morning, because he has heard how much you have complained against him. When you complain against us, you are really complaining against the LORD."

But he spoke to the sky above and commanded its doors to open;

For the bread that God gives is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

"I am the bread of life," Jesus told them. "Those who come to me will never be hungry; those who believe in me will never be thirsty.

The people started grumbling about him, because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven."

But the bread that comes down from heaven is of such a kind that whoever eats it will not die.

For my flesh is the real food; my blood is the real drink.

This, then, is the bread that came down from heaven; it is not like the bread that your ancestors ate, but then later died. Those who eat this bread will live forever."

This was the real light---the light that comes into the world and shines on all people.

"I am the real vine, and my Father is the gardener.

But when the right time finally came, God sent his own Son. He came as the son of a human mother and lived under the Jewish Law,

We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we know the true God. We live in union with the true God---in union with his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and this is eternal life.
