When they heard this, they were amazed; and they left him and went away.

When Jesus finished saying these things, the crowd was amazed at the way he taught.

He wasn't like the teachers of the Law; instead, he taught with authority.

On the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue. Many people were there; and when they heard him, they were all amazed. "Where did he get all this?" they asked. "What wisdom is this that has been given him? How does he perform miracles?

So Jesus said, "Well, then, pay to the Emperor what belongs to the Emperor, and pay to God what belongs to God." And they were amazed at Jesus.

All who heard him were amazed at his intelligent answers.

They were all well impressed with him and marveled at the eloquent words that he spoke. They said, "Isn't he the son of Joseph?"

Some of the teachers of the Law spoke up, "A good answer, Teacher!"

For they did not dare ask him any more questions.

The guards answered, "Nobody has ever talked the way this man does!"
