"When you come into the land of Canaan and plant any kind of fruit tree, consider the fruit ritually unclean for the first three years. During that time you must not eat it.

But in the fifth year you may eat the fruit. If you do all this, your trees will bear more fruit. I am the LORD your God.

to give the following regulations to the people of Israel. When you enter the land that the LORD is giving you, you shall honor the LORD by not cultivating the land every seventh year.

You shall plant your fields, prune your vineyards, and gather your crops for six years.

Then Abel brought the first lamb born to one of his sheep, killed it, and gave the best parts of it as an offering. The LORD was pleased with Abel and his offering,

but he rejected Cain and his offering. Cain became furious, and he scowled in anger.

The next day was the first time they ate food grown in Canaan: roasted grain and bread made without yeast.

The manna stopped falling then, and the Israelites no longer had any. From that time on they ate food grown in Canaan.

No Israelite may eat any fat or any blood; this is a rule to be kept forever by all Israelites wherever they live.

You must teach the people of Israel all the laws which I have given to you through Moses."

Be sure that you obey these commands; do not forget that you were slaves in Egypt.

You taught them to keep your Sabbaths holy, and through your servant Moses you gave them your laws.

The laws of the LORD are right, and those who obey them are happy. The commands of the LORD are just and give understanding to the mind.
