And he added, "Mortal man, I am going to cut off the supply of bread for Jerusalem. The people there will be distressed and anxious as they measure out the food they eat and the water they drink.

They will run out of bread and water; they will be in despair, and they will waste away because of their sins."

It will make you miserable and drunk, that cup of fear and ruin, your sister Samaria's cup.

I will cut off your food supply, so that ten women will need only one oven to bake all the bread they have. They will ration it out, and when you have eaten it all, you will still be hungry.

"I will make those of you who are in exile so terrified that the sound of a leaf blowing in the wind will make you run. You will run as if you were being pursued in battle, and you will fall when there is no enemy near you.

So then, you will serve the enemies that the LORD is going to send against you. You will be hungry, thirsty, and naked---in need of everything. The LORD will oppress you harshly until you are destroyed.

You will find no peace anywhere, no place to call your own; the LORD will overwhelm you with anxiety, hopelessness, and despair.

Instead of eating, I mourn, and I can never stop groaning.

You have made the land tremble, and you have cut it open; now heal its wounds, because it is falling apart.

You have made your people suffer greatly; we stagger around as though we were drunk.

You have given us sorrow to eat, a large cup of tears to drink.

I am beaten down like dry grass; I have lost my desire for food.

I am like a wild bird in the desert, like an owl in abandoned ruins.

All day long my enemies insult me; those who mock me use my name in cursing.
