Even before that time comes, the lands of those two kings who terrify you will be deserted.

My heart cries out for Moab! The people have fled to the town of Zoar, and to Eglath Shelishiyah. Some climb the road to Luhith, weeping as they go; some escape to Horonaim, grieving loudly.

Then the Lord said to me, "In exactly one year the greatness of the tribes of Kedar will be at an end.

Instead, be generous and lend them as much as they need.

The LORD said, "A day is coming when Israel's greatness will come to an end, and its wealth will be replaced by poverty.

The LORD Almighty planned it. He planned it in order to put an end to their pride in what they had done and to humiliate their honored ones.

Jacob heard that Laban's sons were saying, "Jacob has taken everything that belonged to our father. He got all his wealth from what our father owned."

He boasted to them about how rich he was, how many sons he had, how the king had promoted him to high office, and how much more important he was than any of the king's other officials.

The LORD says, "The wise should not boast of their wisdom, nor the strong of their strength, nor the rich of their wealth.

Plunder the silver! Plunder the gold! The city is full of treasure!

Nineveh is destroyed, deserted, desolate! Hearts melt with fear; knees tremble, strength is gone; faces grow pale.

Pity the people of Moab! The people who worshiped Chemosh have been destroyed, and their sons and daughters have been taken away as prisoners.

But in days to come the LORD will make Moab prosperous again. All of this is what the LORD has said will happen to Moab.
