Why let people go on living in misery? Why give light to those in grief ?

They are not happy till they are dead and buried;

until I would rather be strangled than live in this miserable body.

I give up; I am tired of living. Leave me alone. My life makes no sense.

I wish you would hide me in the world of the dead; let me be hidden until your anger is over, and then set a time to remember me.

I can't be responsible for all these people by myself; it's too much for me!

If you are going to treat me like this, have pity on me and kill me, so that I won't have to endure your cruelty any longer."

Elijah walked a whole day into the wilderness. He stopped and sat down in the shade of a tree and wished he would die. "It's too much, LORD," he prayed. "Take away my life; I might as well be dead!"

Now then, LORD, let me die. I am better off dead than alive."

After the sun had risen, God sent a hot east wind, and Jonah was about to faint from the heat of the sun beating down on his head. So he wished he were dead. "I am better off dead than alive," he said.

During those five months they will seek death, but will not find it; they will want to die, but death will flee from them.
